Why MevaSearch Sucks
A while ago, we wrote about why MevaSearch can be a great choice. This time, we want to take a different approach and explain why MevaSearch might not be the right search engine for everyone.
1. Subscription-Based
Unlike many search engines that are free to use, MevaSearch operates on a subscription model. This means that before you can start searching, you must purchase a subscription.
While this approach helps us avoid tracking-based advertising and better protect user privacy, it can also be inconvenient for people who simply want to open a search engine and start searching immediately. Additionally, payments are currently processed through Polar.sh, which may not be everyone's preferred payment platform.

2. Account Required
As a premium search engine, MevaSearch requires users to create and sign in to an account before accessing the service.
Although we do not store search history, the login requirement can still feel cumbersome for users who value instant access and simplicity.

3. Search Index
MevaSearch combines results from Brave Search, Mojeek, and our own WebAtlas Index.
While these indexes provide excellent coverage for many topics and can perform particularly well for niche searches, they may not always match the quality of large-scale search engines when it comes to highly localized queries, such as finding nearby stores, businesses, or services.

4. Number of Results
From the beginning, MevaSearch has focused on quality over quantity.
Rather than presenting thousands of nearly identical pages, we aim to show only the most valuable and relevant results. Our algorithms do not prioritize sponsored content and instead focus on identifying pages that provide useful information and high-quality knowledge.
The downside is that users who prefer exploring hundreds of results may find MevaSearch restrictive, as search results typically range from a few dozen carefully selected pages rather than endless result pages.

5. Polish Team
MevaSearch is developed by the Polish-based WebOrbiton Team and was previously created by the now-discontinued Ixavence Polska project.
Although we are building for a global audience, our regional coverage, language support, and localization may not be as extensive as those offered by larger international competitors.

6. Privacy
MevaSearch does not personalize search results. Everyone receives objective results based on the query itself rather than personal profiles, browsing habits, or search history.
For many users, this is a significant advantage because it encourages content discovery and reduces algorithmic bias. However, others may feel that some results are less relevant to their individual interests compared to personalized search engines.

7. Settings
Unlike most search engines, MevaSearch offers an extensive set of customization options, including:
• Open results in a new tab
• Display favicons
• Colored titles
• Result descriptions
• Referer header control
• Government widget
• MevaGhost icon
• YouTube player
• Sticky search bar
• Quick links
• Image search
• Video search
• News search
• Related searches
• Safe Search
• Kids Mode
• AI Summaries
• URL Prefix (Proxy / Anonymizer)
• Search Region
• Application Language
• Color Theme
• UI Theme
• Font Selection
• Web Result Layout
• Blocked Domains
For power users, these options provide exceptional flexibility. For casual users accustomed to the simplicity of Google, Bing, or DuckDuckGo, however, the number of available settings may feel overwhelming.

8. Filtering
Despite our efforts to provide balanced content filtering, no filtering system is perfect.
Without Kids Mode enabled, some users may feel that filtering is too permissive. On the other hand, Kids Mode and Strict filtering can sometimes be overly restrictive and hide content that users would otherwise consider acceptable.
Finding the right balance remains a challenge.

9. Minimalist
The MevaSearch interface combines minimalism with a modern premium aesthetic. The goal is to create a clean, elegant experience that keeps the focus entirely on search results rather than advertisements or unnecessary visual clutter.
However, this design philosophy has drawbacks. Users accustomed to feature-rich interfaces like Google or Bing may find MevaSearch too simple or even "empty." Some advanced features are intentionally hidden within settings, which can make them harder to discover.

10. A New Project
MevaSearch is still a relatively young search engine.
Originally launched in spring 2025 by Ixavence and later acquired and developed by WebOrbiton Team in 2026, it lacks the decades of brand recognition enjoyed by larger competitors.
As a result, some users may be hesitant to trust a newer and less established platform.

11. msX Guard
Security has always been a core part of MevaSearch. To strengthen user protection, we developed msX Guard, a system that identifies and warns users about potentially dangerous websites.
While this feature helps create a safer browsing experience, no security system is perfect. Occasionally, legitimate websites may be incorrectly flagged as suspicious, which can cause frustration for both users and website owners.

Conclusion
MevaSearch is not designed to be everything for everyone.
If you want a privacy-focused, subscription-based search engine with objective rankings, extensive customization options, and a clean user experience, MevaSearch may be an excellent choice. However, if you prefer free access, personalized results, massive local search coverage, or the familiarity of larger search platforms, MevaSearch may not be the right fit.
And that's okay. The best search engine is ultimately the one that matches your needs, priorities, and expectations.
